A Radio Net?
« on: Fri, June 19, 2009, 14:16:43 »
Once past Bethel Island on Monday, the plan appears to be pretty much what ever you want to do until meeting up again on Friday at Stockton Sailing Club.  I'm not a participant in the Doo Dah per se, but would love the opportunity to come out from SSC and say "hi", whether by dink or on my regular boat, if I could figure out where a "crowd" of a few boats might be anchored or docked.  To have that, it would require some kind of a semi-real time update as to what's happening, and where the boats have gravitated.  This might be beneficial for other reasons as well....

Has any thought been given to a daily VHF radio net so people can relate where they are, what they've seen, what fun (or problems) they've had, etc, as well as to relay any needs, desires, etc.?  This type of daily morning net works really well on the HaHa....

Or if not on marine VHF, are any ham operators doing the Doo Dah?

If you have DCS we can all take a common channel, listen, and talk without bugging Ch 16.

The rally committee is cogitating on the subject of a VHF net. Stand by...

(I also prefer not too early. It's a vacation, after all.)

The committee has ruled! There will be a VERY CASUAL check in every day on VHF 78 at 10 a.m. (is that late enough, Chris?). If you feel like checking in, great. If you want to hide out, run silent.

The only 'problem' will be as the fleet spreads out. It's likely that we three committee boats will spread out as well so we may need relays or we may just 'check in' the area we're each at.

By all means, if you've caught a bumper crop of crawdads, and feel like sharing, broadcast your position!

Just talked to the other RC volunteers, and we tentatively agreed to do a VHF net on Ch. 78. No roll call! We don't need to keep track of you and you don't have to participate, it will just be for enjoyment, sharing of information, and solving of problems along the way. What's your opinion on the best time of day? (Hint: any suggestions before 9 am will be ignored.) And who's got a strong antenna?

LaDonna's suggested time of 10 AM sounds good to us.

Got it on the schedule at 1000 to check out what's going on, at least whenever I can.  This friggin'
work stuff----

No fixed-mount VHF at the office, and I'm sure a hand-held won't work!!

Thanks,

Peter

Sounds good, gives us time to sleep in and still have some coffee first. 10 AM, VHF 78, starting Saturday, July 27, with the final net on Friday, July 3. Primary net controller TBA....
