Hi there--

Liberte draws 7 feet as well and tho we have current nav software aboard for the Delta, I'm a big fan of the Delta fishing map and use it to double check the depth as we go.  We usually do pretty well, but getting stuck in the mud is half the fun-- hence the name for our group of sailing friends, The Mud Daubbers! :-)

Lucie, you are thinking of Sevenmile Slough. Here are detailed instructions from Owl Harbor for getting in:

To get here the best route would be through New York Slough up the San Joaquin – if you go up the Sacramento you will need to have the bridge lifted at 3 mile slough.

The entrance to our slough – Jackson Slough – is at Channel marker 41 – there is also a very large crane on your left as you enter that makes for a great “marker”. The best way to enter is to stay somewhat to the right side, there is a reed barrier that you can see on your left side. As you enter you will pass 2 marinas on your right and will want to stay somewhat closer to that side than the middle. As you approach a fork in the slough stay to the left and you will see our sign ahead that says Owl Harbor Marina. The club house is there on the first dock (which is J dock) to the left, and we are thinking of removing all the boats from our A dock and having everyone berth and raft up there (it will be at the very end of our marina). This will allow everyone to stay together, and for the festivities we will have them down at the club house area back at J dock. It will give everyone a chance to stretch their legs and take a nice leisurely walk.

Thanks Doodette!

I can't remember a lot....like where my Hal Shells maps are.  And to think I believed I'd gotten everything lined up already.  Whew.

Guess I'll look online for a marina berth map, and wait for Bumpy's reconnaisance report next week.

BTW we drove up a couple of months ago to dine at Spindrift, and boy, was I amazed and the changing condition of the levee roads!

This map of the entrance to Owl Harbor will be in all the swag bags, but here's a sneak preview. I will be emailing you slip assignments for Owl Harbor on Monday, which will correspond the dock numbers you see in this map.

If I am reading the tide table correctly, it looks like we might be facing a minus tide about when we will be leaving Vallejo for Owl Harbor.  I think it is -0.76 at 8:39 a.  Whee!  I believe they dredged the Yacht Club basin within the past couple of years, but does anyone know to what depth??  I know we got good and stuck, like break out the Bloody Marys stuck, in the Municipal marina at low tide two years ago.

The False River tide station shows the low tide at 12:33 pm at -0.23' for July 31 ( I think you were reading the S.F station tides) with high tide at 6:53 at 2.94'. So we should be un-stuck just in time for happy hour : )

Happy to hear we will be getting in in time for happy hrssss.  I do hope I am mis-reading this, so please double check me on the the Mare Island NOAA data for the 31st.  It looks to me like a significant minus tide as we leave Vallejo.  Maybe we have an a.m. and p.m. happy hr.??

Looks like you have the Mare Island tides right. Chances are Solace won't be heading out at 8:30am (chances are we won't be out of bed at 8:30)

The yacht club harbor has been dredged (I believe to 10 feet, but best to check with the locals and ask their advice). Those who had trouble getting out at the 2010 Vallejo Race were in the Municipal Marina next door.

Yes, the club has been dredged to 10'. The only exception is a recently silted up bump just off the guest dock. Keep toward B/C dock and you should be fine. And I believe VYC will have a skiff out to help with the raft up, and those guys know every lump and bump in their harbor - just tell them your draft and you'll be golden.

Lucie, here is what Rich and I have come up with for Owl Harbor and Sugarbarge.  On Sunday,  as close as we can figure, high tide is @ 7:00p.m. for the entrance to Owl Harbor from the San J. River.  We are looking at around 7.8 feet of water at the lowest point.  ekks.  Anyway, we will have to be out of there by @ 6:00 a.m. in the morning to get high water or wait until 7 p.m.

High water at the Sugarbarge on Monday is @ 7:00 p.m.  We can sail around for 8 hours on Monday or go to Boyd's, have lunch, enjoy the day, take a nap and cruise into Sugarbarge at 7:00.

High water at Sugar Barge on Tuesday morning is @ 7 a.m.

Shaun,

Whenever we leave Boyd's on Coyote we go south past Sugarbarge. Even on minus tides we don't run aground and we draw 6ft. So I don't really think that you need to wait till 7PM.

Hey, Georgia's beating the tides by making the trip on 1' more water!  How?  We're going on Astraea (6'8") while we wait for a repair.

Think of the pluses of mid-day lows:  by transiting before noon, we'll have nothing but rising tides to make up for our miscalculations.

I'm getting my floating armchair and air mattress Friday!

Seriously, I've been through Fisherman's Cut and False River carefully.  Best when we've had the luxury of following a shallower yacht with a good depthsounder who calls the lows over a "private" vhf as we go through.  Hmmm.  Where are those walkie-talkies? So, In Vallejo I'm going to try to find some folks who'll be on our timing to lead the way.

HUGE Thanks to Coyote & Owl Harbor for the great maps!

And...anyone already up there who might just add some depth readings fo the Owl Harbor Marina map?  Umm, Ben, where's that laser reader?

Arggghhhhh.............

Now I understand why everyone is so concerned with the south end of Piper Slough (the south route to Surgarbarge).

The darn charts show 1 ft at the entrance and 3ft at Sugarbarge!!!! THIS IS NOT SO.

I ran my tug down to where the 1ft shows on the chart at low tide yesterday  - draws 3.5 ft. On that particular corner we showed 10 to 12ft all the way across to 50 ft off the Bethel Island side.
